MANCHESTER, VT – June 17, 2025 – The BRSU announced today that Dorset School will be conducting lead testing of its drinking water during the week of June 23rd. This proactive measure is in compliance with Vermont state law, which requires all schools and childcare providers to test for lead to protect the health and safety of children and staff.

Water samples from all drinking and cooking taps will be collected and sent to a certified laboratory. Parents, guardians, and staff will receive a summary of the results within 10 days of the BRSU receiving them. Any tap found with lead levels at or above the action level will be immediately taken out of use, remediated, and re-tested before being returned to service.

The BRSU emphasizes its commitment to ensuring the lowest possible lead levels and addressing any issues effectively. Lead exposure can impact child development, and while a major source is paint, plumbing can contribute.

For comprehensive details on the testing process, lead hazards, and additional resources, please refer to the full letter from Adam Bassett, Director of Operations, available HERE.
