Dear Taconic and Green Community,
The Board and I have been continuing the work of reconfiguring our district and the involvement of our residents has been an important part of the process. In October, we have additional opportunities for you to hear about proposals, attend board meetings, and participate in public forums. For the voters of Danby, Mt. Tabor and Sunderland, you will have the opportunity to share your opinion about school closure with Board members through a non-binding referendum vote (like a poll to let them know if you support school closure or not).
Meeting Schedule
October 7: T&G Board meeting at the Manchester Elementary Middle School: 6:30 pm
October 9: Middle School Design Presentation to the Community; Manchester Elementary Middle School 6:00-7:30 pm
October 14: Community Forum at Sunderland Elementary School; 6:30-8:30 pm
October 20: Community Forum at Currier Memorial School; 6:30-8:30 pm
October 27: Informational Session: Virtual meeting 7:00-8:00 pm
October 28: Non-binding referendum vote in Danby, Mt. Tabor and Sunderland
November 4: Regularly Scheduled Board Meeting at The Dorset School: 6:30-8:30 pm
Attached to this email you will find a document with additional details about each meeting listed above.
The process for school closure is outlined in the Taconic and Green Articles of Agreement, so this is what we follow. The idea of a non-binding referendum vote is confusing so I created a brief video to talk through it for anyone who is interested.
We are having important conversations and making significant decisions about the future of education in our district. We are at the point where teachers are going to begin actively participating in the planning and transition process and it is ripe with possibility. Being in schools at the start of this year has been awesome and it is exciting to hear teachers and principals talking about the opportunities we have as we look ahead. This organic process is something to be proud of.
Thanks for your continued engagement and interest in really understanding why we are proposing changes to our operating structure. We know high school choice is valued in our community and we are doing what we can to protect this choice while building, expanding and enhancing our elementary and middle school program. We are a strong and vibrant community and it is an honor to partner with you in the education of our children.
Best,
Randi Lowe, EdD
Superintendent
